Hermann, Missouri is a quaint, adorable, small town with a relatively big winery tourism industry. Weekends here bring couples and groups from near and far to wine taste and explore the town's many shops, restaurants, bars and museums. Weekdays are extra quiet- the perfect location for escaping the hustle and bustle of reality, relaxing and gaining fresh perspective.
Whether you're here to imbibe or unwind- or perhaps a combo of both, we've created this list for first-timers and return guests alike, to hopefully help you plan your next visit to Hermann.
WHERE TO STAY IN HERMANN
The first and most important question you may ask: "Where should we stay?". While I own a hotel that I am obviously going to plug 🙃, there is truly a lodging option here for everyone. It's worth noting Hermann has 150+ lodging establishments- everything from traditional B&Bs, guest houses, motels, luxury suites and even treehouses. Location is always my top priority when traveling and when it comes to Hermann, I recommend being in the Historic District (east of Market, north of 5th St). With that said, there are lovely places just outside of this boundary that only require a 5-10 minute walk to town.
- Vinchester Inn - A modern, stylish boutique hotel located in the heart of the Historic District (where you want to be). We have 11 rooms and 3 suites between two properties and while our spaces are newly renovated, we keep things simple and our rates are among the most reasonable in town. Our reviews speak for themselves and our repeat guests love our comfortable rooms, thoughtful design details and the ability to personalize your stay with our room add-ons (wine, cheese, truffles, flowers, etc.)
- Hermann Hill - A good option if you have a higher budget, want to splurge for a celebration and/or plan to spend most of your time here in your room. They have cottages that overlook the Missouri River with hot tubs - dreamy!
- Inn at Hermannhof - Another great option for a higher budget. Design-wise, beautiful interiors and amenities.
- Airbnb - SO. many options! If you are coming with a large group, Hermann is home to some fantastic large houses. (Side note: depending on the size of your group, we also offer a Vinchester buyout option!)

BREAKFAST SPOTS
It is always wise to start your day in Wine Country with a good breakfast. Both options are a less than 5 minute walk from our front door.
- Ainsley's Place - Located one street over from Vinchester, they have an amazing breakfast and lunch menu. The abelskivers are to.die.for. - pancake balls with a raspberry dipping sauce.
- Espresso Laine - Our go-to for a quick coffee and fresh pastries. They make their own scones and egg bakes. The interior is cozy and filled with all kinds of cute gifts.
SHOPPING THE HISTORIC DISTRICT
After breakfast, spend a few hours strolling the Historic District to soak in the historic architecture and to get a little shopping in! While we can't name them all, here is a short list of our favorites.
- The Fancy Pheasant - Our modern general store, located just down the alley from our back door. A curated selection of everything from baby/kids gifts and books to candles and home decor. Connected is our bottle shop, with (mostly) non-Missouri wines, spirits, cocktail books, barware, etc.
- Periwinkle - A beautiful and fun shop filled with well-curated home decor, apparel and accessories.
- Saleigh Mountain - Owned by a mother-daughter duo, they specialize in shoe repair and handmade leather goods. The shop smells like leather and is full of interesting, one of a kind pieces.
- Old Vine Kitchen Emporium - All things kitchen! You are sure to find something you can't live without here. The shop stocks gadgets, bakeware, dishes, and more.
- The Vine Boutique - A large assortment and fun to shop, it's the local go-to for womens clothing and acessories.
WINE TASTING IN HERMANN
WINE! The main attraction that brings most visitors to Hermann. We reccommend using The Hermann Trolley - they will pick you up at our doorstep and shuttle you to the most popular wineries for a day of wine tasting, tours, taking pictures and soaking in the scenery.
- Adam Puchta - About 10 minutes outside of town, APW is peaceful and quiet but with great, lively energy on the weekends. Don't miss their Elevated Tasting - available as an add-on when you book a stay at vinchesterinn.com!
- Hermannhof - The only winery tasting room located in town, just a short walk from the Vinchester. Their creekside patio is scenic and lovely.
- Stone Hill - History and award-wining wine. Take a (free) cellar tour, do a tasting, browse their museum room and enjoy a bottle overlooking town from their namesaske hilltop.
- Oak Glenn - The one with the view! Late afternoon, third winery stop = the perfect location for photos.
DINNER
Hermann is home to a variety of restaurants and types of cuisine. Here are a few of our favorites. All are within walking distance except Vintage (less than 5 min drive)
- Doxie Slush - A counter service/fast casual spot. The food is "coastal inspired" with gluten-free options available. Best paired with their frozen cocktails- all inventive, chef driven and housemade.
- The Vintage at Stone Hill - Housed in an old stable, this Hermann mainstay has German and American dishes. We love the French onion soup!
- Zydeco -Cajun, midwest style! A hidden gem on 5th Street.
- Tin Mill Restaurant - German and American specialties in a historic grain mill building.
COCKTAILS & MUSIC
After the wineries close for the day, the party must go on! These spots are where we go for drinks and fun when the sun goes down.
- 1837 Cellar Bar - Live music 7 nights/week during peak seasaon (May-October). They have a lively, expansive courtyard with a stage and outdoor grill.
- Bunkers & Barrels - New to Hermann as of Spring 2026. An elevated sports bar with a golf simulator and golf inspired menu items. Fun spot with great food and drinks!
- Bar Vin - A great wine bar with international/domestic (non Missouri) wines, craft beers, cocktails and small plates. We love sitting by the fire on their back deck!
- Lionheart Whiskey Co. - Handcrafted cocktails and tours of their whiskey bottling facility.
While this list is far from all-encompassing and there are many other places in Hermann that are well-worth a visit, it's a good start of our top picks and we hope it helps you plan your visit.
